Echoes
"Every night I find myself reading an article in an old, almost transparent newspaper.
This article, the beginning of which is missing, is about an occurrence in Italy:
Beneath the cities that lay buried under Vesuvius’ ashes, traces of even older cities were found, in their turn buried in a further past. Its inhabitants had built over the layers of ashes covering the previous city. "
Echoes is a short film (HDV, 10'55") about a young geologist laying in a tent. Not able to sleep, he reads an old newspaper over and over. This triggers a thought about an action he performed and imagines to perform. By doing so, the chronology of his memories slowly disappears.
"I have read the newspaper article over and over, thousands of times now. And each time I imagine what it must be like to be standing on these ashes. How, at one single moment, you can be in many different places."
